The Green Law Global Initiative International Moot Court Competition 2026 is a premier academic and advocacy platform bringing together law students, scholars, and practitioners to interrogate some of the most pressing environmental and climate justice questions of our time. Centered on international environmental law, climate change, and circular economy governance, the Moot challenges participants to engage deeply with contemporary legal developments, including the ICJ Advisory Opinion on Climate Change, through rigorous written and oral advocacy.
The Green Law Global Initiative (GLGI)—formerly known as the Green Law Africa Initiative—is a Pan-African and globally oriented platform dedicated to advancing climate justice, environmental governance, and sustainable development through law. GLGI operates as the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of BBA Advocates, anchoring legal excellence within broader societal and environmental responsibility.
Through international moot court competitions, capacity-building programs, research collaborations, and policy engagement, GLGI brings together law schools, legal professionals, and environmental advocates to interrogate the most urgent environmental issues of our time. The Initiative serves as a bridge between theory and practice, fostering a generation of lawyers capable of responding to climate change, ecological degradation, and sustainability challenges with rigor, creativity, and global perspective.
The GLGI Moot Court Competition 2026
The Green Law Global Initiative International Moot Court Competition 2026 is a high-level academic and advocacy forum designed to advance climate justice through legal education, research, and dialogue. The competition convenes law schools from across Africa and the Global North to critically examine contemporary environmental challenges, with a particular focus on climate change, transboundary environmental harm, and circular economy regulation in emerging economies. Through this Moot, participants engage directly with cutting-edge international jurisprudence, policy tensions, and questions of global responsibility, equipping the next generation of lawyers with the tools needed to shape sustainable legal futures.

Competition Format
The competition will be conducted in two distinct phases:
Virtual Rounds
The Preliminary Rounds, Quarter-Finals, and Semi-Finals will be conducted entirely online, allowing broad international participation while ensuring academic rigor and fairness. Virtual teams are required to ensure stable internet connectivity and appropriate technical readiness, as proceedings will be conducted in real time before panels of judges drawn from academia and legal practice.
Physical Finals – Ethiopia
The Final Rounds of the Competition will be held in person in Ethiopia, bringing together the top teams for an immersive, high-level advocacy experience. The physical finals will include formal court sessions, an environmental knowledge exchange, a one-day tree-planting initiative, and structured networking among students, judges, and institutional partners—cementing the Moot’s commitment to both intellectual engagement and tangible environmental impact.
