MAKE KENYA GREEN CAMPAIGN (MKGC)

The Make Kenya Green Campaign (MKGC) is Kenya’s First Eco-Political Party for Social, Economic, and Environmental Transformation.  It is a political vehicle first and foremost — a purpose-driven political party designed to run a purely eco-political campaign that prioritizes social, economic, and environmental benefits for Kenya. It is not merely an environmental initiative or advocacy group; it is a platform for transforming national policy and governance through ecological action, youth empowerment, and sustainable development. The campaign leverages the power of civic participation, tree adoption, and community mobilization to create tangible environmental and social outcomes, while simultaneously embedding ecological consciousness at the heart of political discourse.

Founder, Make Kenya Green Campaign

Brian Awuonda founded the Make Kenya Green Campaign (MKGC) as Kenya’s first eco-political party, running a purely eco-political campaign that integrates social, economic, and environmental priorities into national governance. MKGC positions ecological restoration as both a national asset and a civic responsibility, mobilizing citizens, communities, schools, and corporate partners to engage in nationwide afforestation, reforestation, and climate-conscious initiatives.

The campaign leverages the Adopt-a-Tree model, whereby citizens fund tree planting through a nominal $10 adoption fee. Each tree is planted, named after the donor, and tracked via GPS. For every 100 trees adopted, one street child is rehabilitated and engaged in tending the trees, combining environmental restoration with youth empowerment. With a target of 2 million trees, MKGC seeks to raise at least Kshs 2 billion for youth capacity building, civic empowerment, and large-scale ecological benefits, while creating a constituency of environmentally conscious citizens.

MKGC goes beyond local environmental action. By integrating species-specific tree-level carbon accounting from Kenya’s forest reserves, the campaign envisions generating significant tradable carbon credits, offering Kenya a pathway to leverage its natural capital to fund national debt reduction, drive sustainable development, and establish the country as a leader in carbon finance. MKGC is therefore a political, social, and economic innovation — a platform for ecological governance, youth empowerment, and national renewal.
