B. O. Akang’o is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over twenty years of distinguished practice, combining courtroom experience, academic scholarship, and international human rights engagement. He is the Managing Partner of B.O. Akang’o Advocates, where he has led complex litigation and advisory work spanning criminal law, public law, and international legal dimensions.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Moi University and a Master of Laws (LL.M), Magna Cum Laude, in International Human Rights Law from the University of Notre Dame, USA — a distinction that reflects both academic excellence and intellectual rigor. His postgraduate work deepened his engagement with global human rights systems and comparative constitutional frameworks.
Mr. Akang’o serves as a Lecturer at Moi University School of Law, where he teaches Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Public International Law. Over the years, he has mentored and shaped generations of lawyers, grounding students in doctrinal clarity while situating legal principles within global governance and accountability frameworks. His teaching approach integrates domestic jurisprudence with international legal theory, particularly in areas intersecting with humanitarian norms and state responsibility.
His research interests focus on International Human Rights Law, Public International Law and the Use of Force, and International Criminal Law — with particular attention to organized transnational crime and emerging accountability mechanisms. He is especially interested in the normative development of international law and the evolving architecture of global enforcement mechanisms.
He is currently developing his PhD proposal under the theme:
“The Role of Non-Binding Norms in Promoting Respect for Human Rights: The Case for the Ruggie Guidelines.”
This work interrogates the legal and practical influence of soft law instruments — particularly the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights — in shaping state and corporate accountability within international human rights governance.
Mr. Akang’o’s combined experience as practitioner, scholar, and mentor positions him as a thoughtful contributor to conversations on rule of law, international accountability, and the progressive development of legal norms. His engagement with initiatives such as the GLGI International Moot Court reflects his enduring commitment to nurturing principled, globally conscious legal professionals.
