The Green Law Global Initiative (GLGI)—formerly known as the Green Law Africa Initiative—is a Pan-African and globally oriented platform dedicated to advancing climate justice, environmental governance, and sustainable development through law. Through international moot court competitions, capacity-building programs, research collaborations, and policy engagement, GLGI brings together law schools, legal professionals, and environmental advocates to interrogate the most urgent environmental issues of our time. The Initiative serves as a bridge between theory and practice, fostering a generation of lawyers capable of responding to climate change, ecological degradation, and sustainability challenges with rigor, creativity, and global perspective.
Message from the Chief Executive Officer
It is my distinct honour to welcome you to the Green Law Global Initiative (GLGI) and to the 2026 GLGI International Moot Court Competition on Climate Justice and Environmental Law.
GLGI was founded on a simple but urgent conviction: that the future of environmental governance depends not only on strong laws, but on well-prepared legal minds capable of defending, interpreting, and advancing those laws with integrity, courage, and intellectual rigour. The GLGI Moot Court Competition was established to serve as a platform for that preparation. It is designed in the style of international judicial proceedings to cultivate disciplined legal reasoning, clarity of advocacy, and respect for judicial process.
Our vision extends beyond competitions. The establishment of our Academic Advisory Board, composed of international distinguished scholars and practitioners, reflects our commitment to academic excellence and global relevance. Moreover, through initiatives such as the Rosemary Ayugi Memorial Award for Climate Justice Leadership, we honour principled leadership and reaffirm that law, when properly stewarded, remains one of the most powerful instruments for safeguarding human dignity and ecological integrity.
Thank you for your interest in GLGI and for your engagement in this important work.
