Brian Awuonda is the Head of the Environment and Climate Justice Department at BBA Advocates, where he leads strategic legal, policy, and advocacy initiatives at the intersection of environmental protection, climate accountability, and social justice. With a strong focus on climate litigation, natural resource governance, and community-centered environmental rights, Brian works closely with civil society, state agencies, and international partners to advance climate-resilient legal frameworks in Kenya and across the region. He is passionate about leveraging the law to secure environmental equity, promote sustainable development, and uphold the rights of vulnerable communities affected by the climate crisis.
Brian also spearheads the groundbreaking “Green Trees Economy” initiative, which seeks to unlock climate finance through a tree-level carbon census across Kenya’s forests. His work bridges local and global efforts—engaging communities, governments, and international organizations—to advance legally grounded, socially just climate action. A frequent speaker and published advocate in the field, Brian is deeply committed to transforming law into a tool for sustainability and equity.
